Our Forest

Mount Virginia is located on an 11 acre forest restoration site, neighboring the Great Peninsula Conservancy Filucy Bay Preserve and short distance from the Olympic National Park and Forest (our view of the park pictured above).

Our forest restoration site includes older growth forest with mother trees supporting the new growth forest along the hillside. Our forest is made up of the temperate rainforest flora including a Douglas Fir and Western redcedar overstory with lady fern and huckleberry understory and big leaf maple and madrona (a tree that's survived since prehistoric times) mixed in. Did you know? Our Douglas Fir trees alone absorb enough carbon to offset the footprint of over 1,000 people EVERY YEAR. Each year our trees grow, the greater amount of carbon they store.

Our forest is home to vibrant wildlife species including banana slug, frogs, black tailed deer, pileated woodpeckers, northern spotted owl and barred owls, northern rubber boa, and bald eagles to name a few.

Can you spot the rubber boa pictured above?

We are committed to supporting the health of our forests by physically removing the noxious plants that out compete the native landscape. By doing so, we see a dramatic increase in native plant regrowth, like lupine and the rare trillium, simply because the noxious weeds are gone.

Our strategy? A pair of loppers.

While not fully removing the noxious weed from the ecosystem, this is a chemical free way - that only relies on our own energy! - to give the native landscape a chance to heal.

This is our inspiration for our products.

With every purchase, you support our forest restoration efforts, choosing to be part of a food system that focuses on eating what we grow and delivering it to you in a way that minimizes carbon footprint and promotes forest life. When you buy from us, you are directly supporting an active forest restoration site.
